Strategic Podcast & Content Tips

"OMG, is that from Claire's?"

Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read

“BFF, you know…Best. Friends. Forever.”

In a pretend coffee shop in 1997 on a studio lot somewhere in LA, Lisa Kudrow delivered the line that would spark a revolution of acronyms over the next two decades. (OMG, BRB, JK, BTW, POV, LMAO, TBD, TTYL, XOXO)

Yup, I’m rewatching Friends – yet again!

And I laughed out loud when Phoebe took a moment to pause from getting her coffee at Central Perk and explain those three little letters that would appear in all of my middle and high school yearbooks. Or variations like BFFE – Best Friends Forever And Ever.

(Remember when those cheapy locket-type necklaces first came out? At Claire's...in the mall! We’d buy those split hearts and give one half to our best friends.)

Can you believe that, Reader?

There was a time that you had to explain to a group of adults, or all of America watching primetime TV, what BFF stood for!

It's kinda like podcasting.

Right after I launched my show in 2018, the same year we moved to Houston, I was chatting with my neighbor, Brittany, about “starting a podcast.”

And her blank stare was followed by, “Uhhh, what’s a podcast?”

Isn't that wild? In 2018 (more than a decade after podcasts originated)…

I had to grab her phone and show her that she already had Apple Podcasts installed on her device, and she could easily access podcasts today – right now!

(It’s kinda the same as explaining what ChatGPT is today to someone who’s not in the online space and has never heard of it!)

The point is…

I’m celebrating that this platform of connecting with your audience intimately while they fold their comfy yoga pants, cruise to work in their minivan or take their dog on a walk around the block isn’t as “old” as you think.

Apple Podcasts only started in 2012 – the same year our middle son was born, and he’s not even in middle school yet!

We’re still in the beginning stages of the “Great Content Revolution.” You and I are right in the middle of it.

Who knows where all of this will be in ten years!?! (Ugh, 2033 sounds like light-years away!)

But I can tell you this…

I’m here for the journey!

I love watching podcasting continue to grow. I love watching members of this community grow.

This week, I got a message from Chef Amanda from the Baking for Business podcast about having the #cakegate Baker on her show and what it meant for her and her audience.

Or Hunter Donia from The Modern Hairstylist is getting rave reviews like, “I get amazing value out of every one of Hunter’s episodes….”

You can have that kind of impact, too, Reader!

And if you need help, I’m here for you.

Whatever you do, don’t tell yourself, “It’s too late to start a podcast.”

We’re just getting started,

Krystal
